His string tinged rock music lets your brain wander the fine line balance between the pain of old timey musicals and the foolish pleasures of acoustic punk rock, with power pop nods to artists like the Kinks, the Decemberists, Wilco, and Nick Drake.

Here are six varied reviews of the new song "Uncle Fred"

Great strings make this piece interesting.
Very promising start. And the violin's an interesting instrument to have in the background. I'm hoping for a bit of a beat to come in, make it a big ho'down. Nice guitar, but I'd like to hear a proper double-bass playing that bass-line. Is that a cello there as well? Very nice.
Glad the piece sped up at the end there, that was a nice way to end. Liked the 'audience' reaction as well :)
Quite a pleasant song, and the strings add a lot to it.

Folky
Folky ditty with a cheerful delivery, fiddles, the lot. Good fiddles - like that sound. Song is a bit naff mind. Good fiddle solo. Vocals are OK but lacks that folk richness that I associate with this style of music.

I think whoever made this can really play but this song doesn't do them justice - oh, its live! Nice performance...

bar
the arrangement of the song makes it a little boring and repetetive. the violin and chelo are nice and fill in the empty space due to lack of instruments. i do not like the vocals. i think that there really is notmuch talent invoved its more of a, ' lets have a beer' song then a song that u could listen to and say 'thats awsome'.

Lovely
Is this going to be like an imitation Barenaked Ladies song? Because that's what it reminds me of for some reason. It's really quirky and I really love it. No complaints. I love the violins. Maybe a more subtle beginning would be nice because it just sort of jumps at you. The good side to that is that it gets your attention, though.

unusual
different, have you heard of they might be giants?? well i think you have a similar vibe... nice mix, good lyrics i could get in to it. i especially like the violin... did you D tune the guitar for the loose string effect? well goes well

i think i'll be adding this to my elite play list

comedy
I find this to be a very amusing piece of music which does the impossible- it reminds me of the Beatles and Weird Al Yankovic at the same time!

Seriously though, that isn't something that is easily accomplished. The orchestration reminds me alot of what the Beatles would do with the acoustic guitar and string assortment (cello and fiddle?) backing it up. The vocals have a comedic edge to them and are sung clearly so as to be able to easily make out the words.

The engineering on this is a bit curious though- It sounds super compressed and squashed. It might just be an effect of the mp3 encoding, it's difficult to tell. There are times where the background music sounds so compressed it sounds unnaturally loud in relation to the vocals. A bit crammed and no room to breathe.

Allin all a curious selection. Not sure what to make of this. Nice effort.
